In Kokshetau UNDP representatives met with head of energy engineering and community facilities board of Akmola region and potential investor
On 24th February 2010 in Kokshetau UNDP representatives met with a head of energy engineering and community facilities board of Akmola region Alexandr Martynenko. National Project Manager of UNDP/GEF project "Kazakhstan - wind energy market development initiative" A. Sospanova, public relations specialist M.Kassen and advisor of UNDP Department of Environment and Energy V. Baygazina represented the UN Development Programme at the meeting.
The sides discussed prospects of cooperation between Akmola region administration and the UN Development Program in development of renewable energy and energy efficiency, particularly in the field of wind energy. They discussed possibility of implementation and financing of specific projects for installation of wind turbines. For instance, Mrs Sospanova presented a project of wind farms in Akmola region, particularly in the vicinity of Ereymentau town, which aroused their interest. For construction of windfarms in 2010 UNDP will provide technical assistance in developing feasibility studies. In turn, Akmola region administration expressed a desire to provide necessary support for the project.
Also during the visit to the regional center UNDP representatives met with potential investor of the project, director of EnergoPromKompani LLP Rustem Turzhanov, who had an experience of wind monitoring in Kokshetau. During the meeting the parties discussed prospects of mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of wind energy in the region. In particular, they discussed the possibility of building 5 MW wind power station, actually the first in Kazakhstan.
